Love Changes Direction

You’re gone
not unexpectedly, I confess
for I never really caught you
I was happy just to share you
with the candlelit nights
and microwave days
and besides,
it’s autumn…
the time of year
when love changes direction

Some people like telephones,
not me
for when they scream to life
in my fragile days
they taunt me with the memories
of phonecalls from autumns past

But just this time, it might be nice
to have you call my telephone
if only to say
you were sorry for the sunsets you missed…
